And the Oscar goes to..........

It's that time of year again. Time to dig out your "good" shoes and jewelry, and squeeze yourself into your fanciest dress. It's Oscar time!

The invitations and ballots have been sent out. Now comes the hard part, when we all must pick who we think will win. Will Reese Witherspoon win yet another award for her performance in Walk The Line, or will Felicity Huffman sneak up from behind? Will Best Picture go to Brokeback Mountain or Crash? Do you follow your heart or go with the critic's choice? I would love to see Michelle Williams win, but most likely it will go to Rachel Weiz. Checking off your ballot is very serious when you consider what is at stake....the infamous, the coveted, the imitated, but never duplicated..............
Pink Panther Bobblehead!

That's right folks! This little guy is up for grabs! Can Kellie manage to hang on to him for another year? We'll find out on Sunday, March 5th, 2006, as Jason and I host our 2nd Annual Oscar Party.

Oh My God! Oh My God! Oh My God!

Guess who's going to see this wonderful man in concert? It's so silly when we ask this kind of question, isn't it? I mean the answer is always....ME ME ME!!!

In this case, the answer is actually me and Jason. A couple of weeks ago, while watching U2 perform on the Grammy's, I was commenting on how awesome it would be to see U2 perform live in concert. Jason, who has never been to a concert (you heard right), was like "Why don't you just listen to their CD. No lip-synching, no crowds, etc" . I tried to explain to him that A: The real musicians/artists don't lip synch and B: that amazing powerful feeling you feel when you hear someone play live. How it rocks your soul, makes you scream/dance and can even move you to tears. It short, it makes you feel so alive. So I told him that I was making it my personal mission to take him to his very first concert. He's a concert virgin, if you will. I promise to be gentle.

Jason said "OK. The next one that comes to Moncton, Let's go."

A few days later, Jason heard on the radio that INXS was coming to Moncton in May and opening for them was none other than Marty Casey and the Lovehammers! Having religiously watched Rock Star, we both agreed that this was someone we would like to go see. Sherry and Kellie were thinking of coming too, but they both decided against. So now it's just me and my husband going to a rock concert! No offense to Kellie(who'll actually be reading this) or Sherry, but I kinda like that they couldn't come. Now we get to drive to Moncton alone; go to a concert alone; and drive back home alone; something which Jason and I have never gotten to do together. Plus it's happening in May, so Spring will be in the air.

I haven't exactly been the band-aid myself, but the few concerts I did go to, it would have been nice to have him there to share it with. And I have to say, I'm so excited that it's this particular concert, that he's finally getting to come with. It's an honest to goodness rock concert!

Last May, when I was listening to Matt Mays & El Torpedo, I so wanted Jason to be there. But when Blue Rodeo was on, not quite so much. Don't get me wrong, we love Blue Rodeo. They put on an amazing show. But it was listening to Matt Mays rock the house, that really lit my fire. If possible, I would love to take Jason to see them perform someday.

Anyway, getting back to yesterday, we were too slow in calling the box office. After a dozen or so attempts, I finally got through at around 12:30pm. All they had left were seats in the balcony. I think it's safe to assume that INXS will be playing to a full house, considering tickets didn't officially go on sale until just yesterday morning! So sucky seats, but who cares? I'll just borrow Dad's binoculars.

I'll just have to call Kellie when Marty is singing "Trees" - "It'll be you and me, up in the trees...". If it wasn't going to be so late, I'd almost call Abby when INXS was singing "Pretty Vegas". She loves that song. I'm getting so excited! Can't wait!

Since I've Been Tagged......

Thought I would really surprise Kellie and actually reply to her latest meme.

Four Jobs I've Had In My Life

  1. Gardener at Grandad Underhill's (I would weed, hoe, cut beets, pick beans, etc... all summer long, so that I could buy two pair of Ikeda jeans to start back to school. Looking back it was kinda the best job I ever had, .......lots of exercise, sun and fresh air.)
  2. Canteen Worker at G&M Takeout ( G&M stood for Gerdie and Margaret - a.k.a Jason's parents. I had to scoop a lot of ice-cream, which I hated, but got to buy a lot of summer clothes)
  3. Data-Entry Clerk for Purolateur (I was really only a tempt. Worked the night shift. Everyone was very competitive trying to get their speed up in hopes of getting hired permanently, working through lunch, etc... I used to listen to Harry Connick Jr via headphones. Really my first corporate/office/cubicle experience. Didn't really suck.)
  4. Shoesaleswoman for Aggies Shoes (Not the greatest job in the world. Totally relate to Al Bundy. Never ever enjoyed working retail. I just don't have the personality for it)

Four Movies I Could Watch Over And Over

I find this one hard too. There are so many.....

  1. When Harry Met Sally ( Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. Classic. I couldn't even estimate how many times I have watched this movie. Totally memorized. Totally use lines in my daily life)
  2. Manhattan Murder Mystery (Woody Allen and my girl Diane Keaton, plus Alan Alda and Anjelica Houston. I still laugh out loud at this movie. Especially the scene in the elevator. Cracks me up!)
  3. Guess Who's Coming To Dinner (Sidney Poiter and Hepburn and Tracey. It don't get better than this. Unfortunately I do not own this movie yet, but have still managed to watch it three times. Could definitely watch it again and again. Especially love the line "You did what you were supposed to do!" Watch it and see. Awesome!)
  4. It's A Wonderful Life ( Christmas movie I know, but for me it never gets old. It's hard to pick just one of Jimmy Stewart's movies. Lines from this movie get repeated in my house on a daily basis. Seriously. "No more we live-a like-a pigs in this-a Potter's field!")

Four Places I Would Love To Visit

  1. New York City ( We all knew this would be number one on the list. Probably the only one on the list that I will actually go to.)
  2. Italy (Who doesn't want to go to Italy? Come on.)
  3. Western Canada (For the simple fact that I've never been. It would be nice to see the mountains in Alberta, drop in and visit family, etc...)
  4. Hawaii ( It seems like a good place to go to relax. Jason and I always wanted to visit the pearl harbor memorials there. Plus now I could stop by the set of "LOST" and chat with Matthew Fox!)

Four Place I Have Lived

  1. Barnettville Road (As in my parents house)
  2. Moncton (In the Fraser apartment that swapped roommates a million times)
  3. Burns Street, Miramichi ( Jason and I rented a duplex on Burns Street when we made the official move of leaving the nest for good)
  4. Crammond Ct., Miramichi (My own experience of living in a trailer park)

Four TV Shows I Love(d) To Watch

I'm going to go with a mixture of then and now...

  1. Gilmore Girls
  2. Grey's Anatomy
  3. Mad About You ( I now own on DVD)
  4. The Dick Van Dyke Show

Four Websites I Visit Daily

  1. google.ca
  2. wilwheaton.typepad.com
  3. nbwords.blogspot.com
  4. rosie.com

Four Places I Have Been On Vacation

  1. Prince Edward Island (I've vacationed there 3 times so far. It just brings me peace)
  2. Alma (A sweet storybook place where I plan to go again)
  3. Moncton ( As I am a Miramichier.....Jason and I would go there a lot to get away for a few days)
  4. Toronto (Since it was with Jason and his parents when we were teenagers, I don't know if you could consider it a vacation or not. But we did do a lot of the tourist things like Canada's Wonderland, Marine Land, Metro Toronto Zoo and Niagara Falls.)

Four Things on the Floor/Trunk Of My Car

  1. scraper
  2. Tim Horton's coffee mug
  3. sticker (one of the kids got while at the hospital)
  4. napkins

Four Friends Tagged

Yeah...I don't have four friends to tag. Kellie tagged me, so she's out and she already tagged Trish. So......yeah I'm going to have to pass on this one.

Answer The Call

Ok. So............... maybe I meant ten minutes per week. Geez!

Today (this week) I want to talk about something much more serious than Madonna.
Wil Wheaton recently put out a call to everyone to sign themselves up on the national bone marrow registry.

"You can reassure your friends that signing up for the registry does not
require donating any bone marrow. If it turns out they are a match, they
will be contacted, and can make the decision at that point about becoming a
donor.
There are lots of misconceptions about donating bone marrow. (I
know I was terrified of doing it before I learned how minor the procedure
actually is.) The procedure is simple and safe. You will be anesthetized the
whole time, so you will not feel anything. When the procedure is over, you
may have some soreness in the area for a few days and you may feel a little
tired. That's it. The bone marrow you donate is replenished within 3-4
weeks. And again, you will only undergo this procedure if your blood sample
shows that you are a match and you decide to donate, in which case the
slight soreness you'll be feeling will be saving someone's life."

I had no idea that it was that simple. I realize that he is referring to
the American registry but I cannot see Canada's being much more difficult. Jason and I are both going to the doctor on Wednesday. I've decided that I'm going to inquire about getting myself registered on the list.

Jason had to have his bone marrow tested once. His back might have been frozen a little, but he was definitely not knocked out. He admitted to experiencing more than just a little discomfort. He still shudders when he thinks about it. I can't even touch his scar. This from a self-claimed "Superman". Maybe it is different when you are "donating" rather than being tested. I'm not sure. But I think if you knew that your pain was going to literally save someone's life, you'd do it. Without thinking. At least, I'd like to think that I would.

So now I'm joining Wil and putting out my own call, to all of you. Well,.... all 4.5 people who actually read this. You never know, one of us might actually match someone out there who really needs us. Now that would be something to say you did with your life!

And that concludes this weeks ten minutes.

Good night and good luck!

Ten Minutes Of Rambling

I totally suck at blogging. It's not because I don't have anything to write about.

I do. I have a life. I do things. I see people.

Honest.

But I just can't seem to take the time to sit here in front of the computer and write it down.

My new best friend
Wil, (smile) does this thing where he rambles on for ten minutes in his blog about nothing particular. Well, actually he got the idea from one of his friends.....but anyway. Here is my ten minutes.

Abby, my 3 1/2 year old daughter, absolutely loves Madonna! Seriously. I'm not even kidding a little. It all started when she heard the song "Hung Up". First she started singing along whenever the song was on the radio. Then she started to sing it around the house, while she was playing. Then she saw the video and she was gone. She literally told my Mom that she wanted to be Madonna when she grew up. She memorized the dance moves and everything. It's hilarious! I just introduced her over the weekend, to "Sorry", Madonna's latest single. Same thing. She has yet to see the video, if one has even been released yet, but she's well on her way to knowing all the words. I'm even considering letting her stay up to see Madonna open up the Grammys.

I wonder if this makes me a bad Mother? Hmmmm.

Anyway, I wish I could write Madonna and tell her all about her youngest fan. The other day in the mall, we were walking past the record store, (Can you still call it a "record"store?) when I spotted a poster of her displayed in the window. I showed it to Abby who instantly grinned from ear to ear and screamed "Madonna!". She has literally cried for me to play her music. She watched the last of the countdown on MuchMoreMusic the other night with us. Number two was Pretty Vegas by INXS, which she also knows. During the commercial, Jason tormented her by turning it to CMT. Abby immediately put her hands over her ears, crying "Turn it! Turn it!". (grin) That's my girl! When the countdown returned, it showed "Hung Up" as number one. Abby gasped and said "She's number one! She's number one!"

While I've been typing this I was asked to play the "old" and "new" Madonna song, separated by my new favorite song, "Just Feel Better by Carlos Santana feat. Stephen Tyler. Awesome song. You gotta love that Stephen Tyler!

Well that's my 10 minutes...............
